Conference: Accountable Institutions

The Institute for Communication Studies (ICS) organized the conference “Accountable Institutions through Increased Transparency and Political Communication”. The event took place on December 4 (Wednesday) 2024, starting at 12:30 PM at the Holiday Inn Hotel, Skopje. Keynote addresses at the conference were given by Žaneta Trajkoska, Director of IKS, Hristijan Mickoski, Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia, and Daniel Filler, Chargé d’Affaires, British Embassy in Skopje. The conference opened a debate on promoting transparency and accountability of public institutions and political actors, by improving standards of political communication. Transparency of institutions and open political communication are key to building trust between citizens and government. When institutions honestly and clearly share information about their decisions and activities, it enables citizens to be informed, participate in debates and influence decisions that affect them. Special attention was paid to the responsibility of political actors and institutions for honest and effective communication with the public, especially in sensitive pre-election and election periods, as well as to the role of the media in reporting on political processes. There were 2 sessions where domestic and international speakers spoke about the impact of harmful narratives and restoring public trust. The conference was organized by the Institute for Communication Studies within the framework of the “Use the Facts” project, which is supported by the British Embassy in Skopje. At the invitation of IKS, NEXT-EM dooel was also present at the event.
